Some people might think there’s no difference at all, and that they’re basically the same thing. But they are NOT.

First of all, anyone can be smart. Anyone can solve a math equation, read tons of  books, and know every country by name. These are things you learn in school. Being smart means to know things someone else thought you. To be “good in school” and win lots of contests.

Second, being smart does not compare with wisdom at all. Being wise means to make right decisions always, to know when to speak and when not to, to choose your words carefully, treat others the way you would want to be treated, make peace with your enemy, to be kind, tolerant and understanding. The definition of wisdom is endless. Nobody can teach you to be wise, that’s a characteristic God gives to you and you grow it in time.

Now you see the difference?

I for one, want to be wise, and I’m working at it. Because wisdom is the great road to success in life. I don’t want a job that will make me rich, I want a job that will make me happy, be my hobby. I don’t want to be first in my class, but I want to be the an example for my colleagues through my actions.

Even life is a road on which we have to make decision every day. And with wisdom we won’t end up regretting our decisions, but be happy of the choices we made that lead us up to the moment in which we live today.

A quote I very much admire says: “We are made wise not by the recollection of our past, but by the responsibility for our future.”~George Bernard Shaw. You know for sure that the future depends on you, but do you know what you want in life? Choose your dreams carefully and never stop working for what’s really important.

It is good to be smart, but more valuable to be wise. But above wisdom, we need God to guide us on the right path in our lives. A verse in the Bible says: ” Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6

Maybe genetically you were born smart, but only God can give you wisdom. And on our own we will face only difficulties in life, with no way out. You might think you got so far because of yourself, that you didn’t need God’s help, but if you got so far it is only because of  His mercy and love for you. Don’t take advantage of God’s patience and kindness, one day we will all leave this life. And take nothing from this earth with us when we go.

If you want to gain some knowledge I recommend you read the book “Proverbs” from the Bible, written by Solomon, the wisest man that ever lived on earth. He left us the basic things we should know and apply in our lives.

No other book on this earth than the Bible has better teachings about life, knowledge, truth, and so many others. The Bible is God’s letter to us. Don’t you want to know what He has to say to you?

Some people might say that you can’t be wise at a young age, or that only people who have been through life have wisdom. But they might have been through life and remained with nothing. Don’t let yourself be discouraged. Seek God for wisdom, and know the difference.
